What is the Distance Learning Program (DLP)?
The IKCA Distance Learning Program -or the IKCA DLP – is our name for our self study program to learn IKCA Kenpo! This program is all about YOU and your Journey learning this fantastic system of self defense! There are a lot of possible names we could use for our program and method of testing and promoting our students, Video Testing Program; Home Study Course; Self Study Course; Learn Kenpo at Home; Kenpo Karate Self Study. We have chosen to use the Distance Learning Program / DLP as the primary focus is to serve those students who live at a Distance from an IKCA Affiliate School. The DLP is your ticket to learning IKCA Kenpo where there are no IKCA Kenpo schools.
Get your DLP Instructor assignment.
Our first step when you submit your Request a Certified Instructor form is to assign you one of our Certified Video Instructors (CVI). Your CVI will be the one to evaluate your tests, teach material not included in the course videos, and be available to answer any questions that come up during your studies. You’ll also receive our IKCA Welcome Packet. It will help to introduce you to the program and fill you in on the background of your CVI. We also supply you with a few things to get you familiar with the testing process.
Begin your study with the DLP.
The IKCA Curriculum videos can be reached through the Course Videos page. When you select the Yellow Belt page, you’ll see the curriculum videos, a link for the Yellow Belt testing script, and a link for the Yellow Belt Critique form. View the videos as much as you need to. We advise returning to them again and again, until you make sure you’ve got things correct. Pay attention to details! Good Kenpo is in the details.
Decide when you want to test.
We don’t tell you when to test, that’s up to you. When you feel you’re ready, we recommend filming a couple of pre-tests and using the Yellow Belt Critique form supplied to do a self-evaluation. Trust us, you will benefit from pre-testing yourself. See Recording Your Test for suggestions on getting a good test on film.
Film your final test and submit it.
When you’re satisfied with your test, send it in to us by following the directions on Submitting Your Test. Then contact your CVI with the URL (web address) of your video. Once your payment is received and processed, your CVI will schedule your test for evaluation. How long evaluating the test and filming the test critique will take depends on how many tests your CVI has to process.
Receive your test results.
Your test will receive either a Pass or Fail grade. If you pass, great! You’ll receive your promotion materials; we’ll adjust your course access permissions; and you’ll press on to the next course video, repeating the process for the next belt level.
If you fail, don’t worry. Your CVI will tell you in detail what needs to be fixed and how to fix it. For the colored belt levels, your first re-test is always free, so focus on the issues pointed out by your CVI and re-test when you’re ready.
We are offering the Yellow Belt and Orange Belt videos to the general public on the website. They are available for anyone who wishes to study, learn and test for those belt levels. However, the entire system isn’t available to everyone. You’ll receive access to the Purple Belt curriculum when you pass the Orange Belt test; and the Blue Belt curriculum when you pass the Purple Belt test; and so on, all the way to Black Belt.
